Hardwick Arms Hotel is situated in the centre of Sedgefield village. The Hotel was built in 1750 and was the site of Sedgefield's main coaching inn. The London to Edinburgh stage coach would stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation. Sedgefield is the home of the oldest Shrove Tuesday Ball game in Britain dating from 1325. The present owners took over the Hardwick Arms in February 2010 and following a major refurbishment and rebranding, the Hardwick Arms restaurant reopened in May 2010. The accommodation is under refurbishment and is expected to reopen (in stages) commencing in late September 2010.
