Hardwick Arms Hotel is situated in the centre of Sedgefield village. The hotel is currently owned by Peter and Margaret Hamilton. The Hardwick Arms is set back from the main road with a large car park in the front. The hotel was built in 1750 and used as a Coaching Inn. The London to Edinburgh stage would stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation. The Expedition left for Leeds and Newcastle each day except Sundays. Signs of these bygone days can be found in the Arch way with kicking stones on either side to kick the coach wheels away from the walls.
