The hotel is a splendid Victorian building, built in the 1850s as the summer house of the painter Herring and his adopted daughter Jeannie, an authoress and London socialite, who in turn married the sculptor John Adams Acton. The building was converted to a hotel in 1935 when it was bought by the present owners grandparents. Arran is beautiful - seals bask on the rocks beneath Brodick Castle while red deer roam the heather -clad bens and glens which provide a real challenge to the serious climber or a leisurely walk for the rambler or naturalist.
