The King's Arms nestles at the bottom of a steep hill, or 'Mons acutus', of which a story is told of a black flint crucifix found in 1035. That was very nearly a thousand years ago! That same 'Mons acutus' not only gives the village of Montacute its name but also provides the golden ham stone from which much of the village is built. This is one of Somerset's most picturesque and unspoiilt villages, which is probably why it was chosen as the location for the filming of 'sense and sensibility.'
