About Us

The Burn How - meaning "the house on the hill by the stream" - was originally owned by the Short family who were famous for their 1937 Sunderland flying boat. The current owner, Mr Michael Robinson, has cared for and cultivated the mature gardens for over 30 years, encouraging the local wildlife that delights our guests with their antics, and creating an oasis of peace and tranquility where you can Escape, Relax and Unwind. The gardens were originally planned by Thomas Mawson, the celebrated early 20th century landscape designer.

Our Location

Our Hotel in the English Lake District is a magical place for you to visit and enjoy at any time of the year. Whether you are visiting for the huge range of outdoor activities on offer or a peaceful break, there's always something to see or do in the Lakes. The Burn How Hotel is located in the centre of the Lake District, just a short walk from Lake Windermere and the bustling centre of Bowness which offers a wide range of shops and restaurants, and yet the hotel's accommodation is surprisingly quiet, located as it is in our hotel's private grounds.
Conservation
Report
Sculptured over thousands of years by nature and by Man, The Lake District is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places in Britain. The ravages of time, the Lakeland weather and the many visitors can take their toll on this fragile environment. At The Burn How Garden House Hotel we're helping to care for this living landscape by financing vital conservation work.
