Our History

Our lovely Main House dates back to 1866. It was built for the Duke of Bedford's Mine Captain, James Richards, who was responsible for the mining of copper and tin in the Tamar Valley. The house remained inextricably linked to mining throughout the boom years until 1918, when it became part of the Bedford Estate.

The Horn of Plenty Hotel has 16 well equipped bedrooms, including 4 rooms in the Main House (built 1866), 6 rooms in the Original Coach House (converted around 13 years ago), and 6 rooms in the New Coach House (built in 2014). Our rooms vary in size from "classic" and "cosy" doubles to "deluxe", through to our luxurious "best" rooms.
