There has been an Inn at Coln St. Aldwyns since the time of Elizabeth I's reign. She issued a decree that there should be a coaching inn within a day's travel of every major centre of population for the comfort and security of her subjects. Through the reign of twenty monarchs the Inn has stood the test of time. Its new owners have recently started a complete refurbishment programme which will be concluded very shortly, whereby the new facility will have everything the modern-day traveller has come to expect.
