Business Details
We are the custodians of Harris Hotel, a well-established family-owned and run hospitality venue with over 100 years of continuous family operation. Our property was originally constructed in 1865 by the 7th Earl of Dunmore, first operating under the name Tarbert Hotel as a dedicated sporting retreat for visiting anglers. The Cameron family assumed the lease of the premises in 1903, at which point we renamed the hotel to Harris Hotel, a name we have retained ever since. We purchased the hotel outright in 1948, and today the third and fourth generations of our family, now bearing the Morrison surname, remain actively involved in all aspects of running the business. We maintain the hotels original visitor books, which date back to the 1880s, as a tangible record of our long and storied history of welcoming guests. Among the notable past guests recorded in our visitor books is J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, who signed the book in 1912 and etched his initials into the dining room window, a feature that remains visible to visitors today.
We are based in Tarbert, the village capital of the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, a location that serves as the perfect base for day tours of Harris, Lewis and the Uists to the south. Our hotel also acts as an essential stopping-off point for travellers journeying through the wider Outer Hebrides archipelago, no matter the purpose of their visit. We specialise in delivering traditional island hospitality, paired with superb locally sourced food and a calm, relaxing atmosphere for all our guests. Whether you are visiting for business or leisure, for a short stopover or an extended stay, we are committed to ensuring every guest enjoys a memorable and enjoyable experience with us. We cater to a wide range of guest interests, from photography, ornithology, geology, archaeology and history to outdoor pursuits, or simply unwinding in comfortable, peaceful surroundings.

Had lunch and it was great. My friend said the Cullen Skink was best she'd had. My tomato and pepper was fab.

Live on island. Friends always commented on food/service as being good. Took family and friends for meal would not recommend as overpriced. Needed magnifying glass to find ingredients on plate. No wine list offered even though drinks ordered something you expect. Wonder if it was thought we were holidaymakers.

We booked in here for dinner on a Sunday. Not much is open on Lewis and Harris on Sunday, so make sure you book in advance. I had a burger and my wife had the seafood linguini - both were very good!

Fabulous place for a bite to eat. You really need to book in advance for meals here as the food is so good they are always booked up well in advance. We were just so lucky they could squeeze us in. Compliments to the chef and all the staff who give you a proper Harris welcome.
