Our ten individually styled bedrooms offer a blend of historic charm and modern comforts. Each room features Egyptian cotton linens, Connock toiletries, and free Wi-Fi. Options range from cosy Snug rooms to luxury suites with village green views. Family rooms include bunk beds and en-suite bathrooms, while the Best Room offers a separate lounge area for added space.
Fine Dining
Seasonal menus showcase East Anglian produce with plant-based, gluten-free, and meat options. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with dishes like Sunday roasts and fresh seafood. A diverse drinks menu includes local ales, non-alcoholic beers, and wines from small producers. Special dining events feature themed menus and wine pairings.
Dog-Friendly Stays
We welcome dogs in most rooms and public areas with the Muddy Paws Stay Package. This includes dog treats, walking route recommendations, and a dedicated dog menu. The Nine Stile Stride walking route offers scenic trails for guests and their pets. Additional charges apply for this service.

Yes, Better Rooms can be twinned upon request.
What are the kitchen opening times?
Breakfast 8am-10am, Lunch 12pm-2:30pm, Dinner 6pm-8:30pm (varies on weekends and holidays).

We have limited front parking and additional spaces near the church. No parking on the green opposite the pub.

Celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by having a meal at the Black Lion whilst staying in Long Melford Very good service from Holly who was friendly & very efficient throughout the evening. Food was superb, & the menu certainly has something for everyone & just that little bit different. Would definitely recommend a visit for a meal, & from what we saw if looking to stay in the area worth checking out the rooms.

Just had a superb Sunday lunch at the Black Lion, the food exceed all our expectations, the decor was just beautiful, and the service was exceptional. We had our very first date here 7 years ago, and this was our first visit since then. It was just as good as all those years ago. Highly recommend this place for some quality food and a beautiful location.

I actually met my husband working here in 2000 so it's a special place for us. It's a beautiful place, recently refurbished and super dog friendly. Actually above and beyond dog friendly. Great food. Great atmosphere, great service. Can't wait to go back
