Established in 2007, the The Newington is a family-run establishment situated on the Royal Approach adjacent to York Racecourse. Our 44 en-suite bedrooms cater to single travellers, families, couples and groups, offering a comfortable base for exploring historic York. The hotel occupies a Grade 2 listed Georgian building that has been tastefully converted while retaining original period features including door frames, fireplaces and faades. Nice York type hotel. Lot stairs, we had upper room with larger area, 3 window and view, room was clean and quite good. Nice staff. Breakfast good - ok, dinner in restaurant was quite good. Parking ok. In behind and well lit area, not public accessable. Bit difficult to locate drive in off street first time.

After letting them know weeks in advance that I am vegan, got dairy cream on my sliced melon starter and 2 mushrooms and salad for my main. 25 quid

We stayed at the hotel on Wednesday 15th July and we enjoyed our overnight stay, the room was immaculately clean as was the bed linen.we cannot comment on the breakfast as we had to leave before is was served. We would certainly book again.

Rather stay at faulty towers! At least I would get a laugh. shame as the staff seem friendly but as soon as you have a issue to bring up it straight away your fault! Needs shut, shook out and started again this time for the year 2015 + not the 80s lol expensive room charge for room that looks the same as the day it was probably made back in the 80s. Avoid at all cost until they have maybe spent some of the money they have made from us poor suckers to upgrade a little. Ps it says no charge on booking and cards but as I found out they have a non refundable deposit of 50 quid they take at booking so Watch out!

7/12/2012: Great place to stay in York, about 15 minutes walk from the walls. Excellent value for money, super breakfasts (especially the sausages) and friendly and helpful staff

24/11/2012 Four post bed! Great breakfast, staff very friendly and helpful. Will be staying here again when visiting York early next year.
